Winging Our Way to Cape Town - August 26, 2008

We flew 6,000 miles in 11:15 hours - a lovely flight on KLM. The economy section was less than half full so wide open seating allowed for spreading out and taking naps! Clear skies provided wonderful views of the Alps, French Riviera, Corsica and Sardinia in the distance and crossing the coast line of Africa at Constantine, Algeria. A full two hours later we were still flying over the Sahara which reminded us of satelite photos of the Red Planet, Mars - dust storms of red clouds as far as the eye could see. Three hours after crossing into Africa, the landscape finally turned green as we were nearing Nigeria. We crossed the Equator near Libreville, Gabon and flew down the western coast of Africa along the Atlantic near Kinshasa, Zaire, Luanda, Angola and Windhoek, Namibia before landing in Cape Town. Our wonderful host and driver, Andrew Brink, met was at the airport and delivered us to the Commodore Hotel for a nite cap and good night's rest.
