Knock knock at 5:25am by our guides for the 6am drive - a gorgeous cool morning with a red ball sunrise in Chobe. What an absolute wildlife feast we saw this morning - Breakfast in Botswana rivals Breaksfast at Brennans! We returned to the scene of the kill and were rewarded with a sight to behold - King Daddy Lion was presiding over the feast of the cape buffalo being enjoyed by two lionesses! Our hearts were racing seeing The King.....a trophy sighting on any safari and the only Daddy Lion we would see in Botswana. It was so graphic seeing the lionesses with their faces inside the buffalo's cavity ripping through the meat and bones. We were mesmerized for a good hour watching the feast. It was pure Darwinism! When their bellies were full, they covered the carcass by kicking sand on the remains as Big Daddy meandered into the savannah and two of the lionesses playfully chased each other into the brush.
We were treated to numerous other sightings as we drove through Chobe....seeing hippos on the banks of the Chobe River, greater kudu (awesome rack), giraffe, impala galore, cape buffalo and zebra. Just as we thought there was nothing to top the lion's feast, we came upon a stunning leopard stretched out on a tree branch - encore!!! Our first two drives in Chobe were spoiling us rotten! We enjoyed morning tea by the river and retunred to Chobe Marnia Lodge for a feast of our own - brunch is a meal not to be missed! We spent the rest of the day relaxing around the pool, writing our journals and post cards, napping and getting ready for our "sundowner" crusie on the Chobe River.
