The Sundowner cruise on the Chobe River was a feast for the eyes - elephants, hippos, crocodiles, cape buffalo, red lechwe, baboons, mongoose and incredible bird life - as we navigated the waters between Botswana and Namibia in our small nine passenger boat that allowed us to get very close and personal with the animals. We were practically on top on the crocs and could just about feed peanuts to the elephants! Hilary had arranged to have two bottles of Stellenbosch wine on board for our sundowner cruise which was capped by a magnificent African sunset as three huge elephants siloetted by the sun began their trek from river to shore and what could have been a 20 to 40 kilometer walk into the Chobe National Park for the night. The birds of Botswana are stunning - Malachite Kingerfisher, African Fish Eagle, African Jacana, Egrets, Herons, Yellow Billed Storks and more. We returned to another amazing alfresco dinner with a charming British chap named James Garner as our table guest. He and Hilary had enjoyed many laughs together in the back seat of the 4X4 on the morning drive. We slept like babies and were up again at 5:30am for our last morning drive in Chobe.
